I sit on the ground taking the opportunity to rest while I nervously wait to find out which gnomes are hidden behind the rubble.PTG is adamant we will be safe but I’m not convinced we should rely on a ‘bubble’ as our only protection.

I will keep my secret dynamite stick within easy reach just to be on the safe side, thank goodness the dynamite also reduced in size.If I have to light it at least the tunnel won’t come crashing down on top of us. My calculations of a safe distance are based on the size of my usual footsteps,we’ll all just have to run a little faster & hope for the best.

My thoughts turn to Grim, when we get her back I will drag her to Doc Poppets & get one of those chip thingys implanted in her ear.Hmmm...maybe I should get Angel & PTG chipped too.

Rummaging in my bag I find a few useful items, one of which is the light from below.
I give give this to Angel & tell her if the gnomes are unfriendly she is to shine it in their eyes, then throw the riveted disc like a frisbee. If we’re lucky she might hit one or two which will give me time to light the dynamite & kaboom.

I stand there among my partners, absolutely dumbfounded.

So much has just happened to us all and so quickly too.

I gloss over my own feeble and failed attempt at protecting the others and can only be thankful that it is Seeker and his mates who we meet when they cleared the blocked tunnel ahead.

Seeker seems to enjoy my discomfort and educating me in magical mysteries connected with this ring I had lost.

With the way ahead clear, Cash, Wickerbat and Nose are all eager to resume the search for Grim and press on ahead.

We follow, but I am getting more and more worried every yard/meter we progress.

Where on earth are we and where are we going?

There are no signs in this service tunnel and no connections at the moment with the main parallel one which is still reeking of danger.

I had wanted to quiz Seeker about all of this but he just disappeared in a flash after he had sorted the ring out for me.

Grrrr!

Nothing for it but to chase after the three pets and hope we come to the end of our travels soon or the diminishing size tablets will have worn out.

And I need the second tablet for our return journey!

Then ahead I hear a kerfuffle as Cash and Wickerbat seem to be engaging in fisticuffs with a hoard of other ferrets.

Nose is crouched in a corner and wants nothing to do with these feral creatures!

They look too dangerous.

Matters calm down and it appears that our two ferrets have just been playing with their country cousins!

With twitching whiskers communicate is established!

The other ferrets have just hidden away from some alien creatures that were chasing a very tired rabbit.

GRIM!!

The aliens have gone on ahead but our beloved partner is tucked away in a little aperture nearby and is at this moment fast asleep

She is shedding dust bunnies by the heaps as she dreams about all her recent actions.

My broom sweeps into action!

Roo, with tears in her eyes at finding her long lost Friend is for waking her up straight away but I persuade her to spend a short time guarding Grim while I plot our return.

I post the others who are beside themselves with joy as sentries in case Grim’s pursuers should double back.

I am comforted by the thought that we can be both protected and rendered invisible from them.

I need communication with these native ferrets about where we are.

I turn to the ferrets and use Cash as an interpreter.

“Where are we?”

The grey ferret looks at me with a very un-animal like expression on his face!

Squeak!

I look to Cash.

“He is the leader of his ‘busyness’ and he says he is in one of his homes!”

“OK! So WHERE is this home?”

More squeaks which leaves Cash rolling on the ground in paroxysms of ferret laughter!

Home is where the heart is
“And we are in the heart of his homes!”

I think I need to ask something different.

“Is there a way to the surface from here?"

The ferret replies; “Yes, where you see the light at the end of this tunnel”

Now this tunnel is OK for us in our diminutive state and even for Grim in her natural state. But it is nowhere near big enough if we revert to our normal size.

And I have an itch!

Which means we must surface and quickly before being trapped here.

We need to take our second tablets for the return journey.

But I must brief Grim first on what we are doing.

I gather the others together and we move to the tunnel entrance.

Just before emerging I invoke the magical powers invested in my ring and we are now both protected and invisible to all and sundry outside.

I see that there are no 'all and sundries' there however, but we can’t be too careful with so many diabolical forces also hovering in the ether.

As we wait for Grim to emerge from her rest I scan our perimeter, if only to set up possible defensive positions.

I am sure that is what the Cap’n would be doing?

Our surroundings are shrouded in low cloud at the moment so I cannot see the horizon, where evil may be lurking.

But nearby we stand in a patch of flat scrub land dotted here and there with iron girders. At the side are some decrepit picnic tables and chairs, most of who are falling to bits.

They look very old.

Suddenly I get the impression that the iron rods are not higgledy-piggledy but in rough lines.

My brain goes into overdrive!

They are railway tracks and they disappear into a large pile of rubble!

I can just see behind the heap the beginnings of a large tunnel and some large wheels.

This is what remains of a railway station!

This is the line that we have been traveling parallel to in the service tunnel.

So where are we?

The cloud and mist are burnt off by a watery sun and we can now see to the far horizons.

There in the distance is a tall dark tower that I have come to know so well!

It is the Dark Tower.

I can just make out the approximate direction of the tunnel in front of us which appears to travel to the far distance with regular raised mounds along its length.

On the Horizon are buildings and I am thinking I can see a dirigible hovering overhead.

NOW I know where we are and which way to return to.

A very bleary eyed Grim emerges from the ferret burrow. >>>>>>>>>>

* Buzz....buzz.......psssst, psssst, Grim......can you hear me? Hello.....Hello to Grim….

* I swat at my whiskers, but the message is directly in my head. Something about a Genie with ethical dilemmas, a captain being called away, and a godson being sick.... Godson… that must be PTG, and the captain is Randy. The timestamp, however, is from several days ago. Strange.

* Intruder alert! the ferrets yell, and several trample me in their rush to get outside again. A riot ensues, then they return, pleased with themselves. All yours, they tell me. But do remember to wake up first.

Keeping an eye out for more furry shenanigans, I watched Cash and Wickerbat disappear down a hole and hoped they were on the trail. Then it donned on me that we couldn’t follow, that is, until someone revealed a trap door after a cute dog showed up named Nose who I hadn’t yet met and had followed them down the same hole.

We were quickly on our way though the toll booth was a bit confusing to me, it was the wall of rock that got my most concern. It seemed at some point something caused a cave-in. I looked for my crowbar to help us move on then remembered that I had left it in my bag back at the tea room under a table so no one could trip over it. At least I had my furry companions to keep me warm; it was freezing in that tunnel to me. I even got to meet Nose along with everyone else. I looked around at the others observing them and noticed Roo messing with stuff in her pockets. I saw here take out a candle looking thing but when she changed the angle that she was holding it, I realized that it was a stick of dynamite. I just hoped she didn’t get a notion to use it. I suddenly had a flash of a blast going off in my mind and then two walking skeletons. One says to the other “ What another fine mess you have gotten us into” and the other makes babbling noises as they walk on. (Borrowed from the ending scene of a Laurel and Hardy Show episode).

The sound of someone working to clear the debris in front of us seemed to make others nervous; me, I just wondered if it was friend or foe. I was glad it was friend.

Maybe it was boredom but I paid attention to the conversation that was going on and watched as PTG learned how to use his ring of protection. It is always nice to get something back, especially something quite useful and this should come in handy for him. The animals took off again once they sensed we were ready and we followed.

Suddenly, they started to run and I had a feeling that they had nearly found something. I was right, they had f Lund Grim and a group of ferrets still returning from their revels the day before. I was going to break up what looked like a fight, but it was only play.

We had found a sleeping Grim it seemed. With nothing to do but wait and watch for trouble, my mind turned to the tea room and Buddy. I knew he was being cared for but I started to feel bad about leaving him behind and not giving him much attention lately. Would he even remember me when we finally got back?

BUDDY WAS RESTLESS, HE MUST BE MISSING HIS MISTRESS AND FRIEND.

I ASKED ANNA IF THERE WERE MAPS OF THE TUNNELS IN THE LIBRARY, IF SO DID SHE THINK SHE COULD GET THEM TO THE TEA ROOM. I KNEW PTG, AND THE CAP WOULD BE INTERESTED.

ANNA WAS THINKING THIS OVER. THEN LEFT.

OK, BUDDY YOU WANT TO PLAY, HE WAGGED HIS TAIL WILDLY, GOT A BALL AND WE PLAYED FETCH TILL HE WAS TIRED. BIG KITTY JUST WATCHED SORT OF SMILING AT THE SILLY DOG. CHASING A BALL OVER AND OVER.

I HOPED ANNA WOULD SEND SAM IF SHE FOUND ANYTHING. I KNEW SHE WOULD RATHER BRING THE MAPS HERE THAN BE INVADED BY EVERYONE.

SOMETHING THAT LOOKED LIKE COFFEE WAS SAT IN FRONT OF ME. THEN A POT OF HONEY AND A GLASS OF WATER. AND A PLATE OF TARTS.

THE COFFEE WAS TOO HOT TO DRINK BUT I ADDED HONEY AND A LITTLE OF THE WATER. UMMMM! THIS IS MORE LIKE IT. I SMILED AT THE GHOST WHO HAD BROUGHT THE COFFEE, AND HONEY.

THEN TO KATT I SAID TARTS, CHERRY NOT RASPBERRY I HOPE.

DRANK MY COFFEE AND ATE TARTS. THEY WERE GREAT.

KATT, SAT DOWN WITH HER TEA. I SAID I HOPE THE OTHERS GET BACK BEFORE DINNER. I DO HATE TO EAT ALONE.

I left the tea room and went back to the Secret Library, hoping to search for Maps of the Tunnels as Charlie had asked.

Unfortunately, I had to leave the castle environs for a time to help another friend and to search other places for clues to the maps.

When I returned Sam bounded in followed by a pride of lions. LIONS!!!!!!!! SAM, Where did you get them from?????????? Take them back as soon as possible, they might be missed from the HOS.

Well, it seems that these lions have come from the Fairy Sculpture, which has turned into the Elfish bas-relief and no longer have any reason to hang around where they are not needed. Some of them have come from games that have been abandoned or have crashed. Just what I needed, NOT.

The largest lion said that they were bored and needed something to do, so I decided to put them to work and told them they they could help tidy up the mess around the castle and look for ways to help those in need of a hand. Hoping that would get them out of the way I let them loose, with the warning not to frighten anyone and to stay out of sight as much as possible.

Maybe PTG could use a couple of them to bring Grim back to safety, though what the smaller animals will think about that I have no idea. They may be enough to scare off her pursuers.

So far have not been able to find any maps of the tunnels but will keep looking. Have sent Sam to tell Charlie what has happened so far.

As I sit for a short break with Charlie, I watch the Gnome builders working on the new dual coffee/tea bar. I think Caffeine Bar might be a better label for it. Becki the ghost barista looks positively cheerful. I'm glad to be able to provide her with purpose again. And REALLY glad she is willing to take over the coffee end of things, which I know next to nothing about.

The construction supervisor walks over...

"We are finding all kinds of weird items while pulling out the old bar." he says "What do you want us to do with them?" He shows me some dusty feathers, a pretty brooch, a stick of dynamite, several ornaments and various other odd bits. I ask him to toss everything in a box for now. I'm sure the stuff belongs to the regulars. I'll leave the box out for them to look through when they come in. "Oh, by the way" I say, "Do you think you can pop a chicken coop out back? There are a lot of chicks around and If I catch some I'll have eggs and chicken for the menu." "Sure, that's easy he says."

We negotiate price and he goes back to his crew.

I chat with Charlie hoping for insight into what the regulars like to eat. There are a lot of veggies available for harvesting locally, gotta love those ever refreshing HOS's. I can get a nice assortments of fruits and nuts too. Although no peanuts, I have been considering the potential of acorn butter as a replacement for peanut butter. Fresh seafood is also plentiful. It's meat I'm having trouble finding. With the chicken coop I'll be able to maintain a supply of both chickens and eggs. That will help. But cows and piggy's are going to be a problem. I wonder how camel tastes...hmmmmm.

I send a pigeon to the Tea Room with a banded note around his leg .... he is to find Katt, the new owner.

Contents of message: The Battle Pit has been replaced by the Castle Armory......there is a pig in that Battle Pit ..... perhaps there are a few still hanging around with the newer inmates to MC ..... you should get plenty when those HOSs close.

Also.....there is a pig in the Jewels Table ..... if you don't take too many of them when you visit, they should be replenished during HOS cooldown.

I have seen no cows, though, so beef will be a problem.

In addition to the camel in the East, there are several monkeys .... but I would guess you would have difficulty getting our gang to eat or try monkey.

That is a porcelain one!

As for camel, well perhaps young camel (calf) can taste like beef but old camel somehow picks up a taste of kerosene!
Anyway the camel is not available as it is not in an HOS (like the little piggie).
As for monkey meat, my trusted search engine tells me it tastes like pork steak
So voila!! meat is on the menu if we can catch the little blighters (starting with Egor!)

NO NOT MONKEY, NOT A GOOD IDEA, I TOLD KATT, SOME PEOPLE AROUND HERE HAVE THEM AS PETS. IN FACT DANDY DOG LEFT HER'S HERE. NOW CAMEL IS SUPPOSED TO BE GOOD.

YOU KNOW MRS. FLETCHER DID GET BEEF FROM SOME WHERE OR AT LEAST I THINK IT WAS BEEF. CAP, IS VERY FOND OF STEAK.

JUST THEN SAM CAME THROUGH THE DOOR. JUMPED INTO MY LAP. WHAT!!! HIS PICTURES WERE STRANGE. A GROUP OF LIONS. SAM? SLOW DOWN. THERE ARE LIONS, THEY LOOK LIKE LIONS THEY DON'T HAVE STRIPES LIKE BIG KITTY. SAM WAS EXCITED. BUT HE SLOWED DOWN HIS MIND PICTURES. YEP, THEY WERE LIONS.

I LOOKED AT KATT, OH, DEAR! SAM HAS FOUND A PRIDE OF LIONS AND TAKEN THEM TO THE LIBRARY. SUE HAS SENT THEM OUT TO HELP TIDY THE MESS AROUND THE CASTLE. WITH ORDERS NOT TO FRIGHTEN PEOPLE AND STAY OUT OF SIGHT.

NOW WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO WITH LIONS. THEY WILL NEED A PLACE OF THEIR OWN SOMEWHERE AWAY FROM THE REST OF OUR PETS. BABY AND ELLIE MIGHT NOT LIKE IT IF WE PUT THEM IN THE ENCLOSURE. AND THE DOGS AND MAYBE THE CATS WOULD ALL MOVE IN HERE AGAIN.

WHAT DO YOU THINK THE GNOME BUILDERS WOULD CHARGE TO BUILD A PLACE FOR THEM?

PTG WILL BE VERY SURPRISED AT THIS DEVELOPMENT.

Seeker shows up at the Tea Room and approaches Katt ....

Ahem, ahem...... My good woman..... ahem, ahem ..... down here .......

Oh, bother ..... she really needs to get some glasses, that woman...... so, once again, Seeker mumbles under his breath "normal height, please" followed by a peculiar cough .... whereupon he is once again the normal Dwarf size of about 4 foot 8 inches tall.....

Startled at his appearance, Katt falters a bit and starts to flutter her hand in front of her face, but she does not faint because she has already learned to expect the unexpected from this new "land."

So sorry, Miss Katt ..... I didn't intend to startle you...... but word has come to the Gnomes that you are in somewhat of a conundrum about how to feed the crew who come to visit your establishment.

As a result, my leader has instructed me to bring you a bull and 5 cows, two of which will drop a calf any day now, so they can be fed out and butchered. The cows will continue to provide milk for you, while the bull will continue to provide .... ahem, ahem..... well, you know what he will provide to the cows so you can continue to have more in the herd.

Oh, and there are a few pigs also included.

There were a few extra housing elements added when the Gnomes originally created the pet area, so there should be no problem with where to keep them ... especially, since that area was put closer to the kitchen for ease of access.

We also have discovered that there is a pride of lions (I would ask, "what next?," but I'm afraid someone will tell me!) roaming around trying their best to not frighten the residents (fat chance of that). Anyway, lions must be treated delicately and kindly, so there will be a crew arriving tomorrow to start the new Lion's Den area (away from the other pet area, of course) ..... it will have false boulders and a cave area to be used as a den. The lions will be permitted to come and go through a special opening that will only allow the entrance and departure of lions.

With that, Seeker coughed that strange cough while mumbling "original height please" and calmly walked out the back door.

A pigeon swoops through the open window with a message about pigs, cows, camels and monkeys. I'm shocked, who would be sending me a message? Charlie looks at the note. Oh that's from PTG's Fairy Godmother she says. WOW, I'm honored! Let see what it says!!! Hmmmm, pigs in the Battle Pit. I'm at 74 so it the Armory for me now but I'm sure I could trade with someone at a lower level. I only need a few to get a little pig farm going. (Out in the hills, not right out in back of the tea house.) I could do the same with camels. I know I can get the occasional steak from the interrogation room and there is that roast of something the raccoon is cooking in the gnome kitchen too. Charlie seem very upset about the monkey idea. Don't worry I tell her, I don't think I could cook monkey anyway...too much like human. But I will fry up those nasty spiders and make escargot out of all of the snails infesting the place. A lot of bats about too but I think the local vampires miiiight just have issues if I start cooking them up.

Lions? What did you say Charlie? A pride of lions need a home? What about that lovely green area in Atlantis by the Watery Bridge? It's remote so they can have a nice peaceful place when not helping around the Castle.

A gnome I haven't met pop's up in front of me. Goodness, I knew they changed height when needed but actually seeing one pop up to human height right in front of me was a bit of a shock. He brings me wonderful news! I don't have to feed my customers steak from the interrogation room! (What a relief, I was a bit worried about the freshness of that.) Cows and Pigs - Oh thank you so much!! You know your folks are welcome here too. I could even set up a dining room at normal Gnome size if you like. He seems startled at that suggestion and mumbles that he will pass my offer on to his leader. When he explains about the Lion's den I think that's a wonderful solution. especially with the charmed gate that would prevent those pesky kids and always inquisitive MC players from stumbling in to become a snack.

I love it when problems can be solved so easily. And here I thought I was going to have to learn how to use that magic wand I found in the Potion Shop. Phew, what a relief! I think I might be a bit dangerous with that thing!!!

I LOOK AT KATT. GUESS I HAD BETTER GO FIND AN AX.
CHICKENS I KNOW ABOUT PROCESSED A LOT OF THEM. IT IS NOT FOR THE WEAK OF SPIRIT. IT IS BLOODY AND MESSY. I HATE CHICKENS. BUT THEY DO TASTE GOOD FRIED OR BBQ'D. THE PIGS, AND CATTLE YOU HAVE TO FIND SOMEONE ELSE TO DO THEM.

IT WILL BE 3 TO 4 MONTHS BEFORE THE CHICKENS ARE BIG ENOUGH TO EAT. THEN YOU HAVE TO SORT THEM FEMALE'S FROM THE MALES. OR YOU GET PROBLEMS.

ROOSTERS MUST GO, NO ONE WANTS A FLOCK OF ROOSTERS WAKING THEM BEFORE THE SUN IS FULLY UP.

OH, WELL AT LEAST WE HAVE THE MEAT PROBLEM SOLVED.

DON'T YOU DARE TRY TO FEED ME SPIDERS. SNAILS I WILL AT LEAST TRY.

SO, KATT I SAY I GUESS YOU HAD BETTER BRIBE HENRY SO HE WILL LET USE GET ICE AND STORE MEAT AT THE ICE ROCK.

NOT THE FROZEN TREASURY, TOO MANY PEOPLE WANDER THROUGH THERE. MAYBE BEHIND THE TREE WHERE HE HAD HIS SHOP.

Oh wonderful, thank you Charlie! I was planning to hire an expert since the last thing I want to do is feed customers bad food. I'll find someone to handle the critters. Even found a couple sheep in the Chapel too.

I'm with you on the spiders but I've heard a lot of folks like them. Snails - I'll cook but will not eat. Never been a fan.

I was thinking about storage issues. I'm thinking of discussing renting out Henry's old store for a freezer, and using my Christmas room 1 for a refrigerator.

Once I have the logistics all taken care of, I thought I make a lovely Pavlova for a treat.
