Open the security center and at the bottom right corner it has a link called "about" click on that and look at the VirusScan section. You need to have the DAT version 5473. If you are still downloading the 5472 version, try rebooting your computer to establish a link to another McAfee server. It can take several trys to get the new DAT file. Frustrating, but worth it!
hope this helps,

I must be really slow, I am, but what exactly am I supposed to click? I clicked this dat-5473.zip and it downloaded 7 files. Now what? I think I'm reading something wrong.

Help!

Oh, and someone remind me to call Dell and apologize to that tech guy I gave grief to.

Thanks to everyone who has been posting on this. I have been reading the forums all day, only just now was able to actually comment. It was wonderful knowing I wasn't the only one with this issue; I learned so much from all of you. Thanks to BF and Picman for some wonderful customer support! I figured everyone would be out of the office for the holidays, it was wonderful to know someone was working on it with the holidays coming up.

Thanks to all the folks at BFG, who went above and beyond, and to all the folks who called/emailed/bitched to McAfee....I almost went catatonic when I saw all my wonderful games disappear...especially with the long vacation coming! Even my adult daughters come to Mom's to play all the latest Hidden Object games...we sit around the monitor with rum and egg nog and point to things we "think" we see...All the folks at BFG have kept up their reputation for doing whatever it takes to keep us knee-high in games! Happy Holidays, Happy New Year, Happy to have my games!
P.S. I got McAfee because of numerous problems with Norton...they all suck!

We are so very grateful to all of you. I do wish that we could all fly out and meet you and take you for beer and pizza (and just not in icon size). I was honestly at my whits end (whatever that mean...LOL). It is nice to LOL again. What an experience. I know that you can't endorse other products, but can you suggest several anti virus programs that are compatible with BF. (is that not the political way to ask this question...)

But thank you so much; for applying pressure to McAfee. My heart is still tired (it really is...) over this issue. And
I do believe that "your fish" family" is extremely loyal to you. We love your games, the forums that you all have created, AND... the job that you have done to "keep us playing" and keep you in business! It is definitely a mutual admiration family.

Thanks again. So.. while you lounge in your boats or on the beach....etc., your poor Midwestern fish are slowly sinking into the 13 inches of snow with 6 more to come. I think that we will finish our Christmas shopping after Christmas. Roads are really tough to drive. At least it keeps me inside ... re-downloading my games!

Once again, May God continue to bless your company. I like to think that the "fish" had inspiration that not even you could have imagined!!!!

Enjoy your well deserved breaks. We will try not to fall apart without you over the holidays. Please enjoy yourselves with you families. We can certainly entertain ourselves in this wonderfully friendly and supportive pond!!!

Bye for now.

Your very loyal friend from WI.
Here's to you all! and where is the milk!!!

lmlamson wrote:Great thanks to all who had a hand in creating this fix so quickly! Happy holidays to you all!

I had so much time on my hands, what with the games not working and all ... This might just get a few laughs.

‘Twas Three Nights Before Christmas

‘Twas three nights before Christmas and all through the house
Not a gamer was stirring, not even his mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
Of McAfee’s coming, totally unaware.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of Ravenhearst danced in their heads.
The gamers were anxious, their fingers to tap,
On mouses and touchpads, computers on laps.

When out on the forums arose such a clatter,
We sprang from our beds to see what was the matter.
Away to my PC I flew like a flash,
I knew right away this would cost me some cash.

Our faces went pale in the soft PC glow,
With horror, we knew, this really would blow..
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a most evil program whose actions were clear.

Like a little old virus, its heart filled with glee,
The games were all eaten by one McAfee.
The titles were eaten, each one disallowed.
The plot was so evil, the Grinch would be proud.

With a little old driver, on one HUGE crime spree,
There was only one culprit it surely could be.
More rapid than eagles, the bad news it came,
Alerts just kept coming, it called them by name.

“Now My Tribe! Now Farm Craft!
Now Yard Sale and Slingo!
On Luxor! On Redrum!
On Top Chef and Fishco!
To the top of the porch!
To the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash Away!
Dash away all!”

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
He emptied the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
And sticking that finger straight up in the air,
He laughed right out loud coz he just didn’t care.

“Just wait for the patch”, his people all said.
They just couldn’t care that the games were all dead.
But I heard him exclaim, as he drove out of sight,
“Merry Christmas, suckers!!!!!!”

Kudos IM to your wonderful poem...You certainly are talented. Now that we have our mean evil thoughts taken care of...I challenge you to write a special poem to our big fish founders and developers and now... probably very inebriated staff. LOL......

Thank you so much, my son figured out how to get the update. My computer messages were different from some of the others and he showed me what to do. Now I can do the Beta game hour tomorrow and do the survey.

Again THANK YOU, and THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You were all a great comfort all day long. New fishies always need encouragement.

I really appreciate these forums. I was getting ready to email customer support this morning about my trojan message when I decided to check the forums first and all my questions were answered. Once I knew that the problem was widespread and the BigFish was already on it, I had confidence that it would soon be solved.

Honestly, I am a one-woman marketing team for BigFish here in the Midwest. Tech support and customer service are absolutely the best in the business. Actually, I'm just one little fishy in a big pond but I love, love, love the BigFish.

To laml....? (forgot the screen name and can't get to it now) Your poem is great! Now you need to write a happy ending. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Thank you for your prompt and professional solution to this problem! Had you not worked hard with getting the McAfee folks motivated about solving this glitch, there would have been a lot of unhappy gamers being all grumpy and grinchy over the holidays. You guys rock!

i'm sure i can speak for all the fishies that suffered thru the frustrations at home, a big DITTO on the thanks to the operations and support staff that worked so hard to do as much as they could, and push McAfee to get the fix done sooner rather than later. I contacted McAfee (the 9 minute quoted wait time was a half hour plus real time, but i stuck it out, that was minor compared to the other headaches, lol!) had a chat session with the end result being they'd have new def's ready "soon", not much help but at least the complaint was heard and recorded.

at least all us fishies had the option of taking a break walking away from puter and returning later to continue with the redownloading etc, unlike you guys who had to just keep at it til the prob was fixed ... now if only other gaming sites were as dedicated ... what a wonderful world it would be

And as an indication of how dedicated the folks are, i have other games from other sites (gasp, the shame!) that don't work either thanks to mcafee, and with games up and running i've checked the others but surprise, no such luck they still don't work, and likely won't til next year, lol, and since i'm not concerned enough to dig for info about them cause i don't access them much anyway, they will likely be broken for awhile, oh well, if i could buy em from i would

i luckily didn't lose a whole lot, had about 10 games left in game client didn't even have to restore the quarantined files, after the new def's updated those games all worked with no loss of save files ~ had to redownload about 15 and about half of them retained old player and game status info, so have about 7 or 8 games that i'll be starting all over again from scratch, but hey no biggie, so long since i've played most of em it's like having a whole slew of new games for xmas

starting to ramble now, very late on east coast but after the frustrations of the day i deserve a little fun time, don't care how much i regret it a few hours from now, lol, so i'm off to sleepy hollow til i get too sleepy

thnx again to all of you, other folks could take a lesson from you guys

hi Brillke.
If you went to the link we sent you for McAfee, you need to click on the one that is a ".exe" not the ".zip". (the .zip is for a different OS)
You can also just try "updating" from within McAfee, but the ".exe" above should do the trick.

Off to bed. My 3 glass red wine buzz is wearing off.

Picman, and all Staff here at BF a great big THANK YOU from a wee fish in the pond.
You made a very stressful day for many easy to cope with.
As I stated in another game forum, you have not only restored my faith in Santa, but also Superman!!
His name is not Clark Kent, it is PICMAN, and he does not live in Smallville but he lives in a BF pond!!
Again, THANKS
