Thank you LadyCholla and you just wait Missy Barb! I love it here, spent the first half of my life in the San Diego area so the weather is a bit harsh for me but otherwise it's heaven; quiet and uncrowded, lots of nature in your face and the austere beauty of the desert is something I've loved since childhood Sunday drives. If I didn't live in Socal AZ would be my next choice.

I'm in the high desert in Socal, Yucca Valley to be exact lol even in a group of fellow Socalians most people will say "where?"

Did you ever get the chance to go to any of the cat shows we put on in Yucca Valley.... over at the HS?

Add me to the list. I live in southern california. Fullerton. I love it here. It's like a small town surrounded by cities. Lovely downtown, parks, and horse/bike walking trails.

No Scotcat I have seen posters for them over the years and just never gotten there, lol I think my DH has subtly discouraged it in fear it will set me to thinking we need more cats Would love to though.

You all Californians heard of Lompoc ? Up the coast from Santa Barbara ? I had an uncle, deceased now, who lived there for years. As far as I know, his wife is still there.
I've never been to California, but would like to visit sometime soon. Any sugestions other than the big cities, to visit ? Stelly and I are heavy into camping.

Joshua Tree National Monument, pristine desert, dramatic landscape, they do allow bare bones camping. Lompoc hmmm I hope your uncle wasn't in Lompoc for it's main claim to fame

I've lived in Los Angeles my entire life. Currently I'm near Culver City, about 5 miles from Santa Monica.

There was a small earthquake yesterday afternoon.

When an earthquake wakes me up, I wait to make sure it's over, then turn around and go back to sleep. When out in public and there's an earthquake, most of us just look at each other and estimate the magnitude. We're pretty accurate!

I have never been to California. But I have seen pictures on the internet! LOL
I am such a fraidy cat. I think I would drop dead of shock if I ever went there and there was an E~A~R~T~H~Q~U~A~K~E. First off, if I flew, I know my plane would crash and I'd live, but I know it would crash in the ocean, then the sharks would swim around me but they would find other things to eat, and I'd live, but I know when I got to land, there would be an E~A~R~T~H~Q~U~A~K~E, and I would drop on the spot. So I don't think I will make it to California. As much as I am starting to dislike the snowy weather here, I love the four seasons. The trees are starting to get buds on them. The Robins are back and Spring is in the air.
So I can't help you in this thread unless you decide to move to Wisconsin or Upper Michigan!

BinLA you're a true blue Californian lol, once years ago DH and I were woken by an earthquake and both of us looked at the other said "cool" and went right back to sleep. The next day I was ranting about what if it were a really dangerous one and we should have at least stayed awake for a while, but the chances are so slim.

Lol Mmaiden and would you also survive a mudslide, wildfire and our L.A. traffic before the E.A.R.T.H.Q.U.A.K.E. gotcha? If you've never been in one the idea of mother earth herself suddenly betraying you has to be really scary, but most earthquakes feel about like it does when a big truck goes by or a sonic boom, not to belittle the few who have been involved in devastating ones.

I would recommend a trip to Yosemite National Park; I live about 20 miles south from the gates of Yosemite. It's one of the world's most beautiful natural wonders; fantastic waterfalls, deep valleys, giant sequoias, a vast wilderness area, great for camping, hiking, and so forth. It's in the Sierra Nevadas about 200 miles south and east of San Francisco. Do a google or a yahoo search and you will learn a lot more about it.

They happen yes , but not everyday
no different than tornadoes hurricanes, we dont have earthquakes every day or at least ones we can feel.......someone has to live here lol
I live about 20 minutes from the beach and its beautiful here. if i want to go to the snow about 2 hours to big bear mountains.
i live much further south than los angelas, but not as far as san diego.
we dont have smog here as it is mostly residential. expensive???? yes!

I was born and raised in Riverside. I currently live in Fresno. I remember back in the early 1990's living in Redlands and at 4 am all of the sudden our apartment shook real hard. 6.7 earthquake about 60 miles away from us. Well, we went back to bed and about 7:40 am an aftershock (?) hit. So we got up. At 8 am the BIG ONE HIT. 7.1 only 40 miles away. We were sitting in our door jamb hoping the walls would hold up. We were on the first floor of a second floor apartment. My cat was smart, she dove onto my lap to be held. Well, the apartment held up and no damage. There was minor damage to our church. Lets just say it was an experience.

on your hubby. LOL In 2000, the High Desert Star newspaper did an article on the cat show with a picture of my hubby holding a kitten. If they ever have another show there, you should go!
