I have been a player of this game since its inception and have thoroughly enjoyed it, until this last Up-Date (1/20/16) It used to be a very beautiful Hidden Object Game, where you had to go to certain HOS's to fulfill a Character's Quest. There, you would receive an item for that Character and, in return, they would reward you with coins, pet food, stamps...etc. This was a gorgeous game to play... the graphics are beautiful. Plus, you even have a Social Page to invite friends into your game and be able to gift them whatever they have on their wish list. You also have side quests known as Gnome Quests and Trina's Quests. You also have Zoom Zones, which require you to place certain items you have gathered into them to get something else.

But... not any more. Since this last up-date, I would not recommend this game to anyone! The Developers have ruined the beauty of this game.

Now, they have added coins and shards(which you need for Trina's Quests) to the HOS mix and, unless you are on a Main Character Quest, you won't get what you are looking for... what you get the most of is coin and shards. There is no way to replenish your inventory of items to do any Gnome Quest or Trina Quests. You basically have to stop gifting your friends for what they ask for.... Because you have NO INVENTORY of ITEMS TO GIVE. And this was one of the most finest parts about this game... to be able to help out those that needed it.

In closing, all I can say is.... Don't even start this game until the Developers realize their mistake and put it back the way it was or at least fix it to where you can get the Inventory Items. I will hang around to see what happens and if things change for the better... I will be more that happy to come back here and write you a RAVE REVIEW... until then... SORRY DEVS.... I think you messed up BIG TIME!

I have been playing Midnight Castle for almost two year, and have not found another game as enjoyable as this one. I love the gifting aspect of this game, and friends have always helped out if you are stuck. The new introduction of 15 coins or shards instead of an item makes this difficult. I often play HOS when I don't need to in order to increase my inventory of items, so when I need them to do a quest or gift I don't have to just play that scene hoping to get the needed item then wait an hour to try get it again.

The new update makes playing frustrating and pointless.

I do NOT recommend this game as it is now.

I am going on break after playing the game from its inception, so leaving my thoughts for those interested in the game.
1. The game is eye candy unless you are developing cataracts as I am. Later HOS have a number of items that very much blend into the background. (Example: the angel in the crypt scene at the start of the castle.) I have trouble picking out things that don't contrast with the background, so, if you have eye problems, this is not the game for you.
2. Advancement through the first 20 levels, or so, has been relatively rapid (except when we've had to wait for updates). Later levels require much more work visiting scenes and collecting money and jewels.
3. The "quest" aspect seems to have wandered, It started out as a vampire and werewolf characters, and has gone to the occult. This may be part of the desire to keep the game interesting, but the wandering seems to be counterproductive.
4. The seasonal quests end rather quickly with no notice, leaving people holding lots of seasonal stuff and no way to use them. (There are three seasonal sections, spring, fall, and Christmas.) It would be nice to have an option to return to a seasonal quest to finish it (perhaps even paying for the privilege with jewels), but no such option exists at present,
5. Friending used to be a matter of looking for active id numbers and then inviting them. Now you can search for friends by their game name. This is a great improvement. Also the capability to search friends names for gifting. (This helps when you have more than a few friends (I'm up to 165). It would be nice to have an inactive flag for those who haven't played in a couple of weeks so as to not waste gifts.
6. At present, there is no way to send messages between friends (think Awakening Kingdom) it would be nice to communicate other than by name changes or room name changes.
7. One can have a large number of blue key quests going at one time and it's hard to see what you are looking for for whom.
Good luck.

I have played this game for the past year and loved it. However, it is not the most user friendly, as directions are sparse. Ultimately though, there have been several updates to the game counter to achieving game goals. The game now fights itself. For instance, it asks you gift items to friends as an achievement, but now rarely provides items. The game requires you collect stamps, but has started limiting the access to them. The game was already challenging, so these alterations do not enhance the game, they simply make it frustrating to the point of no fun. I would not recommend this game to new users. They will not have the benefits I have enjoyed, and I am now no longer playing given my level of disappointment.

I also love this game as I have read that many others do. I play it on Android and my PC. The recent update (Jan 2016) had me complaining initially but I've come around to saying thank you for keeping this game a challenging experience.

I am on level 29 on one and 69 on the other. I was playing my game with the old mindset of completing HOS for an object and collecting as many as I was capable of doing. I now "find " the needed object and fill in with the others to build my coins.

I love the new pets and the side game of accruing food for them. I can hardly wait to see what you pitch at us next.

My only complaint is concerning the purchase of coins or diamonds. I'm not certain what you call the behavior of repeating an action expecting a different result but I have purchased coins to get through a heavy coin demand and have been repeatedly burned as the game dumps, resets and leaves me coinless. I do however still get charged for that that is lost. Please fix this glitch.

I have given MC glowing 5 star reviews in the past because of the beautiful graphics, soothing music, multi-phased story, & difficult but achievable progression. The entire object of MC is to search Hidden Object Scenes (HOS) & obtain magic items you need to have to craft other magic items in order to repair yet another magic item. You are also rewarded gold coins & other objects. This is repeated over & over, at increasing difficulty & expense, as each item you craft requires more component items & gold coins than the previous level. Plus, there are many, many new areas being added on each level as you progress through the Castle, & each costs thousands of coins to open; some are 20,000 coins each. All this means you make endless rounds of the HOS to accumulate the needed items & coins, but it was addictive. That's how it WAS.

NOW, post-update, you still make endless rounds, but instead of having a 1-in-3 or 1-in-4 chance of getting the one item you need from the only HOS that has that item, you have a 3-in-4 chance of NOT getting what you need, & getting 15 coins or a virtually worthless shard instead. And that 15 coins is 10-75 coins LESS than you could have sold an unneeded item for half the time, if you need coins more than the item.

As a result of needed items becoming scarce, because it takes soooo many more rounds to obtain them, many friends have stopped giving gifts to each other to help each other out through rough spots. This used to be the finest, noblest facet of this game! This update has gutted the ability to help your friends! And people are leaving the game in droves as a result of frustration trying to play the revised game.

Of course, there is a solution to the problem of not getting the item you need from the HOS - buy it. With real $$$. Yes, you use virtual diamonds, but those are rare to obtain in the game, so most people pay real $$$ to buy diamonds. Some people spend a LOT. So much for being a free game. It is possible to keep playing & never spend $, but it takes time (lots of it) & patience.

This update made a fundamental change to the function of the game, & it was a terrible, devastating change. I used to highly recommend this game. Not now. Not unless items are returned to HOS rewards 100%. I sincerely hope this terrible change to a once-beloved game will be reversed in a new update, & soon.

I've been seeing so many comments about how horrid the latest update is, but I thought I'd put in my two cents as a review. My review WILL contain spoilers.

I've been playing this game since January last year and I'll admit I've been on some addictive spells with it. I'm about two thirds through level 41 right now. I have plenty of things to tip my glass to, but plenty of others to gripe about. I'll start with the things I like and then talk about what I don't like. I'll then give my closing statement and then a message to those who continue to whine about the next update instead of report it in a civil fashion.

POSITIVES:
-Even early on, the scenery and items all look pretty darn good, for the most part. The revamp of some of the earlier HOS's (Broken Wagon & Well, Belfry, Crypt, and Fire Fountain are the ones I most noticed) after the magic shard update made those all look so much better.
-Coins are easy to obtain, and shards have also been made easier. You got HOS, the roulette, Wheel of Misfortune, pets, etc. As expensive as things get later on, I can still get the money back just as easily.
-The character animations are fantastic. Much more improved from what I remember from even a couple months ago.

GRIPES AND NITPICKS:
-I do have a problem with the fact it's possible to get shards and coins instead of inventory objects. I don't have a huge problem with it myself but I've heard of accounts where the people got coins instead of items required in quests. That's the game directly preventing the player from moving on, and that's downright unacceptable.
-- I would suggest you put shards up on the extra items you get afterwards in the mix with stamps, food, and gifts and just get rid of the extra 15 coins part. Just let people collect inventory!
-Some old items are kinda bland compared to new items. I suggest revamping some so they fit more.
--For example, items like the Spyglass seem to be up to par with newer items like the Chess Piece, but others like the Riveted Disk just look kinda bland when compared to the First Source. I suggest revamping some, but I'll let the developers decide as it's only a personal thing
-I found some parts of the game just kinda slow down due to using the same HOSs or ZZs over and over in the same quests, like the Binding Egg, Column of the Fallen, pretty much anything involving these items: Shield of Order, Twilight Crystal, Immortal Treasure, Polestar, and Eight-Pointed Star, maybe I'll throw Glowing Darkness...
