Favorite Movies

[Post New]by GinaBean on Jul 19, 08 9:49 PM
Okay, since we started the favorite TV shows thread, I thought this might another good one to start. My problem here is trying to narrow it down, so I'll just have to do it by movie genre.

As a HUGE fan of the old MGM musicals - anything with Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly will work - but my absolute FAVORITE musical is "Singing In The Rain". Every time I see Gene performing the title track, I get goosebumps! I even have a Hallmark ornament of that scene for my Christmas tree!

Now onto comedy. And here I have to go with the original "Ghostbusters". I've seen that movie SOOO many times, I could probably recite it word for word! "Okay, so, she's a dog"! Runner-up would have to be "Beetlejuice", gotta LOVE Michael Keaton in that role!

Now for drama, hands down it would be "Forrest Gump". Tom Hanks is my absolute favorite actor, and in my humble opinion, I've never EVER seen a finer piece of acting than what Mr. Hanks portrayed in this movie. "Momma always said life was like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna git..."

Anyone else?

Ooh..I love Ghostbusters. It was actually on like a week or so ago on TNT or some such channel. Classic movie. I also like Saving Private Ryan. Sad, sad movie but so good. And I like Mrs. Doubtfire, or pretty much anything with Robin Williams. He is such a funny man. I loved him in Good Morning Vietnam as well.

Not much of a movie fan - I'd have to say my favorites are the Harry Potter movies.

nantyglyn ... you're right!! why didn't I think of them? Love the books, love the movies. I read first and second book to my granddaughter. Now she and my daughter have borrowed all of mine and have read them. It's a family affair when one of the movies come out; we've gone to every one together then out to supper. Discuss how it differs from the book. What got left out. etc.

Cesse, I LOVED "Pillow Talk" with Rock Hudson and Doris Day, and I just watched "Men In Black" last week, I LOVE that one too! "You know what's the difference between you and me? I make this look GOOD!"

Ooo Mad Poet, "Brigadoon" with Gene Kelly, Van Johnson and Cyd Charisse is AWESOME! What a great fantasy that is! That's what I love about those musicals, it makes you want to live them! If only people broke out into song and dance at any given moment, AND knew all the steps to each dance, life would be SO worth living!

See I don't even know what movies you all are talking about. Sounds like actors my mom talks about...that's how young I am.

Mine would have to be Forrest Gump. Such simple powerful messages in that one.

I'm not much of a movie buff either. Jonathan, my oldest son, the film editor is another story, he has over 500 DVD's!!!

I do love movies. I'd have to say all the musicals (from the oldies like Rodgers & Hammerstein to Grease). I enjoy the Harry Potters too. The Big Chill is just such a classic in my book--great cast. If I have to pick my all time favorites--I'd have to say Gone With The Wind and The Wizard Of Oz!!! There are just so many that we enjoy, I'm sure I'll be popping back in with more later!

my walk got rained out ... so we went to the movies and saw Mama Mia! Wonderful, funny, absolutely great music -- all ABBA. Very much the musical comedy. Meryl Strep and Pierce Brosnan as you never expected to see them ... and both sing!! If you go to see the movie, do NOT leave when the credits start ... the stuff on screen while credits roll is stellar!! Hugely funny!!

Glad to hear you enjoyed it cesse--I've been listening to the soundtrack and it sure sounds as if everyone is in fine ABBA voice (I'm a BIG ABBA fan). Did you happen to see the Broadway show--I've seen it twice and just loved it. Was wondering how the movie compares?

Hey ghost--don't forget about LisaB, our first HOT MAMA MINNOW, and original leader of the pink pips! That makes triplets. And we have a looonnng way to go before clownfish. First, the wonderful herring hairball, then the much nicer parrotfish. I think clownfish comes in around 500 posts. So, we have a lot of growing up to do yet!
