Aside from the cod pukka accents this was an attractive, involving and challenging game however during the demo it crashed 5 times!

Quite an interesting game with some very amusing moments, particularly with Drake! Of course he looked nothing like the real Drake and if that was meant to be Elizabeth I, then she was way too beautiful but poetic licence aside, this was a fun game.

Graphics were nicely done, crisp and colourful without being overdone. The English accents were done well enough, although we aren't all as posh as these games would have you believe! But a note to the devs; if you are going to have a game with English characters and accents, don't have the written dialogue in U.S. English. I find it jarring to read about the 'maid of honor' who comes from Stratford-Upon-Avon. If she did, she would be a 'maid of honour'. And her name was a bit too similar to William Shakespeare's!

The HOS were of differing types and highly interactive. Puzzles weren't overly difficult; I particularly liked the storybook ones. There were collectibles; written words and something that might have been faces or masks but I'm not sure (and I think they morphed, unless my eyes were playing tricks!). If there was a map I didn't see it, nor did I notice the SG but I guess there must have been one somewhere. The only helper was 'Frannie' Drake (more poetic licence?) but no cute animals in sight. No idea what the extra's might be and didn't have the music on.

I will probably get this game just to see how the story progresses, as I found it entertaining. The weekend sale will be soon enough though

ETA: There are a lot of posts with technical issues (crashing, freezing, game won't open) but I had no problems at all with this demo. It played flawlessly on my desktop running Win7 Pro 64-bit. My PC is at least 8 years old (although it has had some bits upgraded) and I almost never have any technical issues with these games. Curious.

early reaction to game as I play it

[Post New]by kandinsky on Jun 25, 15 5:25 PM
Yes "here we go again" as kdubs says was also my response to the child
shooting out the window in a puff of black smoke.
I am playing it and will play it through likely ...bought it.
other feelings
yes it is state of the art as these games go
Francis Drake is a more interesting helper than some cat or little elf or something but it is not my image of Drake but he was certainly a complex character and not perhaps even as likable in some ways as this young fellow.
Another reaction I am less proud of but mention, if it does not pass muster as appropriate than i am sorry but... how to express it? I have seen what developers working perhaps from photographs have made of my native New York which is far removed indeed from them... and here again with Elizabethan England i would sort of feel more comfortable with more nearly British developers handling it. But ... it is maybe not a very worthy thing to think and I would quickly stop thinking it if I were actually having fun with this thing and who knows maybe I will... maybe there will be something interesting. will Sir Walter Raleigh turn out to be having an affair with Liz? will the Earl of Oxford turn out to be not Shakespeare as a certain faction holds but the author of Ben Jonson's work?
Maybe I am a little jaded from these things... anyway this is not much of a review only a reaction. sorry for its disorder.

Based On Completed Game

I just want to say that if you think you'd like to play this game, but want to wait for the SE, you will end up with a very abbreviated, unsatisfying ending, imo. Also, one piece of the game will make NO sense without the bonus game.

This games starts out with some fun innovation in the HOS, and plenty to see and do, then loses steam in a BIG way when, toward the end, all of the HOS turn into plain old, every-day find-the-item-from-the-list HOS.

A couple of reviews on the main game page say that this game has achievements. For those who like to play for achievements, I'm sorry to say that the reviews are mistaken.

No achievements. There are words to collect that go to a book to form "sayings", morphs to find to charge your hint button, and the usual wallpapers, etc. NO replay of any HOS or puzzles/mini-games.

The strategy guide is there, but is frustrating because it doesn't keep up with your game progress. There is no way to get back to the Table of Contents, or to the place where you are in the game, without flipping through every page.

The jump map is complicated and could have been done better. It's in pages according to the chapters. There will be places you need to go outside of the chapter you're in. That means you will need to get back to the first scene of the chapter you're in, back out to the last scene in the prior chapter, and you will be able to access that chapter's map. Sheesh.

This plays like an SE that got some last-minute add-ons to make it "CE worthy". Barely. Or really, not at all, imo. But, if you DON'T play this "CE", you end up with the "blah" ending, mentioned above. So disappointed.

It felt like the "second team" created the last half. Don't laugh. I've read from one developers very own "lips" that this is common practice. The first and second teams should have had more communication because, in this game, it is OBVIOUS.

CE or SE? Either way, the buyer comes out on the short end. Hope you find some fun today! Happy gaming!

edit: It might have been better to have the whole game centered around "Francis Drake" and the pirate storyteller. THEY were good for a laugh or two and, when all was said and done, the best part. Imo.

edit: Playing on a PC, Windows 7 Home Pro, 64 bit...no tech issues.

Great game and am enjoying it very much. Love the hos, very creative and interactive, puzzles are fairly easy. So sorry that so many are having issues with this game.

Sure wish they would test games better. All these issues should not be happening.
I hope they come out with an update soon.

Just finished the game. I liked it for the most part. My only complaint is when Drake was not available the hint button was also not available.

I finished the game, in spit of a good number of various glitches. But all in all I enjoyed it immensely. There is fancy, irony, humour and something slightly different from all the usual games, which have started being all alike. The graphic is good, the voices over are pleasant and the helper is not a cute little pet, but a self-ironical pirate, a good change.
So my suggestion is :
Don't give up because of some glitches, with a little of patience is possible to arrive to the end without reinstalling or starting over again.
Thank you for the people from this forum who have given their precious help.
The main flaw of the game is the strategy guide, even though I usually use it very little. It's really average and doesn't help that much.
The hint button works when Drake is there, when he's temporarily absent it's somehow out of work or give wrong indications.
In spite of all that, I do recommend the game.

Having finally completed the game I had to start over 3 times due to tech glitches/ It was an okay game just okay HOP were easy good puzzles good story line was it worth the aggravation of having to start over 3 times? Nope to me it's not worth the 13.99 or the 2 credits.ETA: The first game in the series was much better.

An interesting concept - but there are lots of glitches. I wouldn't recommend spending money on this game - it seems very rushed and badly put together.

I'll be honest- I bought this game just because of the music playing on the marketing video. I thought with music like that the game must be good.

So far the game is a lot of fun. I'm more into the adventure/storylines than clicking on junkpiles in HOG's - so I really like what the developers have done here. If I play a HOG with all those random junkpiles I just randomly click and watch tv instead of the game.

Happy to say I've encountered no tech issues at all (windows 8.1) One time I had an issue in the Dreampath game and it was because of Directx. There was a fix in the thread I had posted on so maybe that solved issues with any future games as well?

Oh and did I mention the music in the game is awesome?! I love that the developers included a listing of the game soundtracks. Kudos to the musicians because they are THAT GOOD.

I have to say, I loved this game, one of my favourites for a long time! the humour was great, and frannie was a brilliant and funny helper, so different. It was a good length, and plenty of variety in hops and games. love that the morphs became hints, and that you found phrases to discover quotes.

In my view, different from a lot of games we are getting, hope the developers do more games along the elizabethan/medieval theme.

Please note all devs, do check these games, there were obviously a lot of tech issues in this game. I myself had a glitch in one of the hops, and had to start game again, though worth it because of the enjoyment level.

I loved it enough that I had to post my first review!

This was a good, enjoyable game for me with lots to do and some innovations. I wanted to get rid of Francis Drake though, I really disliked him. Then, the Bonus play featured him! I don't like Helpers though. If I must have a Helper, "Cute" is prefrable to "Stupid", something the real Drake definitely was NOT. Really, I needed Francis to do things that I was very capable of doing myself? Is it because it wasn't "Queenly" to do those things? I found it annoying and Francis was just about the only thing I did not like. I did not get to finish the Bonus, the other disappointment. I was nearly at the end when all of a sudden it ended abruptly on it's own without my having finished it. I tried to get back in to finish the Bonus but could only start over. That was a big disappointment and maybe the new Update will have fixed that. I will play again in a bit after I forget a few things so it will be more fun when I figure out what to do. Also, I need a little time to "Forget" Francis Drake. I do have a short memory these days - Lol!

Well, first of all, I would like this game a lot more if I weren't thrown out of the game every 15 to 20 minutes or so!! I have read that is a common complaint with this game and supposedly fixed but obviously not!! The graphics are very good, the story O.K., the mini-games, for the most part, are interesting and part easy and part challenging. But where or where are the "hints"? I don't always rely on them, as I consider myself an "intermediate" player. But I do like a hint as a back up. I don't think I have ever played a game without them available. That was quite frustrating for me. I have not finished the game, as I was just thrown out for about the tenth time (!!) and have reached the end of my patience for now. I will certainly come back and finish when I have more time and more patience!! This can be quite a lovely game if they correct the faults.

Loved this game at the beginning. As It progressed not so enamored. The end made no sense to me. So abrupt. Hard at times to "connect the dots".

How long did it take people to play through the main game and the bonus chapter? I liked what I saw in the demo, but I'm not paying the CE price if the game only takes 2-3 hours to play through. I'll wait for the non-CE version if that's the case.
