I have both and played both to the end. The first one was not as difficult as the second one. That game really challenged the grey matter. I enjoyed the second one more than the first but am glad I played both in succession.
Because it is a continual story, I'd suggest getting both games and playing them in order.
Both games get a  from me.

I'd agree w/everyone so far- if you are a fan of stories try for both and go in order. DC2 is definitely longer, and had a puzzle (the chess board) that caused me to stop playing for a couple of weeks in frustration, but I really liked both games. The art is beautiful and so is the sound.
