Hi all, I was one of the original members way back when with cesse, ginabean, and the gang. Since things have changed so much since I started the "Where are you from" discussion, let me add to it. I'm now 49 years old, living with my husband in Florida. Just moved here almost a year ago and live in a condo right on the beach. Was born and raised in Southern California, which is where our two sons still are. I was going to school, had almost finished my second Masters, this one in couseling, when I decided that I would much rather work with animals. Started a vet tech program, and then my disaster happened. We went to Boston for a few days vacation when I found myself admitted to Mass General hospital unable to breathe. After a week and a half stay, was diagnosed with a rather uncommon lung disorder called BOOP. I am now on high dose steriods, which is drving me crazy. I just haven't had the energy to post here, especially with the huge growth in the number of people. My short term memory really is bad right now, so bear with me.
I am also known as the Turtle Mama. During turtle season, which is now ended, a large number of sea turtles would lay their eggs on our beach. I became very into it, and I miss it terribly now. Usually I would start the morning thread after my sunrise walk to report on what the turtles had done overnight. If one is interested, our video's are on You Tube, just search for video's by serenitypug.

Grannynoo, here in Florida there are huge fines for buildings on the beach that do not have "turtle approved" lighting. If we don't close our blinds as it gets dark, or leave on the outside light, the fine is $25,000. Of course they give you one warning. The turtle researchers that go up and down the beach each morning take pictures of disoriented nests and they get faxed to 4 gov't agencies.

Unfortunately that is not the case in Barbados. It's a very poor country with high unemployment so there is a lot of crime. It's the major hotels that have the most security and of course they are on the beach front. Things are slowly starting to improve and we do all we can to protect the babies.
