Sayadina: UPDATE on surgery

[Post New]by Shawkn on Mar 15, 17 8:57 PM
Cleared our last hurdle today to get my husband scheduled for surgery. He will be going in on Monday, March 27th to have the rotator cuff repaired. Also just found out he will have some bone removed from the end of his clavicle (collar bone). Apparently he has been grinding bone together on top of the tear so they will shave it down to create some space. There was a surprise! It will be a "day surgery", which means I will take him home the same day.

I will be off with him the first 8 days he is home as he will be pretty much incapacitated. I plan to whenever he does because right about now I am so tired, I pass out gifts, do one or two HOS, pop into the forum and I am done for the night!

Thank you again for the good thoughts, humor, well-wishes, etc. you have sent our way. Love the forum for a reason...it's the people! to you all.

Kate

Shawkn, good luck to both of you. As far as sleeping when he does, You probably won't miss much in the MC game. I think many (myself included) are getting "disenchanted" with the puzzles. So, get some rest and have a or two or three. We're all pulling for you. Good Luck.

Good Luck to your husband on his surgery. I had the same surgery, including the bone shaving, a year ago. He will definitely need you for a while. I was in physical therapy three times a week for nine months. Everything is great now and no pain or problems, but he definitely needs to do the therapy and ALL the exercises they give him at home. I'll keep you both in my thoughts as you go through this.

Yes Shawn!

PT/OT is just the best!! As teddybear mentions.....

Do all they say, keep all the appoints.

My mom at 82 now, had back surgery with bolts and later hip replacement.

Now, drives herself to the local, pool and swims 3/day a week to follow up on PT/OT advice!!

Wishing you both the best, keep,us updated!

Thank you for sharing your experience with the surgery. I keep stressing that he will need to keep all of his PT appointments and do everything he is supposed to. Your encouragement will keep us both doing what we are supposed to do. Since I just got told today that tomorrow is my last day of work (laid off) I will be home full time to keep the schedules going.

Thank you for reinforcing what TeddyBear said. I am sure hubby and I will both need some encouragement for the whole recuperation time which takes a long while and a lot of work. I just lost my job (tomorrow is my last day) so maybe the positive way of looking at losing the job is that I will be home with hubby longer so I can take care of him and not juggle work vs his appointments all the time.

Thanks, Crystal

Hubby and I are both half Irish so the really made me smile. Of course having "a pint" would probably help, too!

So sorry to hear of your lay off. I was laid off just before my surgery so, yes, it seemed to be a sign that I didn't have to worry about work and could concentrate on healing. Sometimes the universe works in mysterious ways!!

I am thinking of the layoff as an opportunity to make sure I can be there for hubby and also be able to take care of the little things that would be BIG things if Nathan tried to do them. Little stuff like letting the dog in and out would be a real task for him for awhile. Thanks for the encouragement.
